PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Michelle Powers leaped onto the college scene in her first collegiate match, leading West Chester with 12 kills in a 3-0 sweep over Bridgeport in the first game of the Holy Family Tournament in Philadelphia, which served up the 2007 volleyball campaign.
Lacie Becher chipped in 11 kills, and Lisa Yeasted posted 28 assists as the Golden Rams took the match in straight games: 30-20, 30-27, 30-24.
Jacki Vivanco led the team with 12 digs, defensively. Nora Jingeleski registered seven digs.
Picked to finish second in the PSAC East this season, West Chester (1-0) opened its season with a victory for the second straight year. The 9 a.m. match on Friday morning was the first athletic event of the new year for West Chester University. The Golden Rams will take on C.W. Post Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
